Global Sweet Delights: Recipe of Tiramisu, Baklava, and Churros

Here are recipes for three famous sweet dishes from around the world:

1. Tiramisu (Italy)

Ingredients:
– 6 egg yolks
– 3/4 cup granulated sugar
– 2/3 cup mascarpone cheese
– 1 cup heavy cream
– 2 cups brewed coffee, cooled
– 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
– 24 ladyfingers
– Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions:
1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar. Place over a pot of simmering water and whisk continuously until thickened.
2. Remove from heat and whisk in mascarpone until smooth.
3. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into the mascarpone mixture.
4. Combine brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish.
5. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and arrange a layer in a serving dish.
6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
7. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
9. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

2. Baklava (Middle East)

Ingredients:
– 1 package phyllo dough, thawed
– 2 cups mixed nuts (e.g., walnuts, pistachios), finely chopped
– 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1 cup water
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a bowl, combine chopped nuts and ground cinnamon.
3. Brush a baking dish with melted butter. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with more butter. Repeat, layering and buttering each sheet, until you’ve used half the phyllo.
4. Spread the nut mixture evenly over the layered phyllo.
5. Continue layering and buttering the remaining phyllo sheets on top of the nut mixture.
6. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
8. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, and vanilla extract until slightly thickened.
9. Pour the hot syrup over the baked baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven. Allow it to cool before serving.

3. Churros (Spain/Mexico)

Ingredients:
– 1 cup water
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 3 large eggs
– Vegetable oil, for frying
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
2. Stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball.
3. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until smooth.
4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
5. Spoon churro dough into a pastry bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil.
6. Fry until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
7. In a shallow dish, mix together sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll warm churros in the mixture to coat.
