Grilled Turkey with Tomato Sauce Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (approximately 12-14 pounds), thawed
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- For the Marinade:
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Tomato Sauce:
- 2 cups tomato puree
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Marinade:
- In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, minced garlic, dried thyme, dried rosemary, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Prepare the Turkey:
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels. Season the turkey inside and out with salt and pepper. Rub the marinade all over the turkey, including under the skin and inside the cavity. Allow it to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the Grill:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Grill the Turkey:
- Place the marinated turkey on the preheated grill. Grill the turkey, turning occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). This may take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on the size of the turkey.
- Prepare the Tomato Sauce:
- While the turkey is grilling, prepare the tomato sauce. In a saucepan, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened. Add the tomato puree, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Serve:
- Once the turkey is fully cooked, let it rest for about 15 minutes before carving. Serve the grilled turkey slices with the homemade tomato sauce.
