Homemade Chicken Sushi Recipe: A Delicious Poultry Twist on Traditional Sushi

Chicken Sushi is a delicious alternative to traditional seafood sushi, perfect for those who prefer poultry over fish. Here’s a simple recipe to make Chicken Sushi at home:

Chicken Sushi Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • Soy sauce, for serving
  • Pickled ginger, for serving
  • Wasabi, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice:
    • Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
    • In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Cook according to the rice cooker’s instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and tender.
    • In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Microwave the mixture for a few seconds to warm it slightly.
    • Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture until well combined. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
  2. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
    • Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken breasts for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and no longer pink in the center. Remove from heat and let them cool slightly.
    • Slice the cooked chicken into thin strips.
  3. Assemble the Sushi Rolls:
    • Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat or a clean kitchen towel.
    • Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch of the nori uncovered at the top edge.
    • Arrange a row of sliced chicken along the bottom edge of the rice.
    • Using the bamboo mat or towel, tightly roll the sushi away from you, starting from the bottom edge, until you reach the top edge. Apply gentle pressure to shape the roll.
    • Repeat the process with the remaining nori sheets, rice, and chicken.
  4. Slice and Serve:
    • Use a sharp knife to slice each sushi roll into bite-sized pieces.
    • Serve the chicken sushi with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side for dipping.
