Mutton tikka is a popular grilled or roasted dish made with marinated pieces of mutton. It is known for its tender and flavorful chunks of meat. Here’s a recipe for mutton tikka:
Ingredients:
– 500 grams boneless mutton, cut into bite-sized pieces
– 1 cup plain yogurt
– 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
– 1 tablespoon red chili powder
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon ground coriander
– 1 teaspoon garam masala
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– Salt to taste
– 2 tablespoons oil
– Skewers (metal or bamboo)
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, garam masala, lemon juice, salt, and oil. Mix well to make a smooth marinade.
2. Add the mutton pieces to the marinade and coat them thoroughly. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to develop.
3. If using bamboo skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes to prevent them from burning.
4. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
5. Thread the marinated mutton pieces onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.
6. Place the skewers on the preheated grill or on a baking sheet if using the oven.
7. Cook the mutton tikka for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked through and nicely charred on the outside.
8. Optional: Baste the tikka with some melted butter or oil during cooking for added moisture and flavor.
9. Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
10. Serve the mutton tikka hot with mint chutney, sliced onions, and lemon wedges on the side.
Note: If you don’t have a grill or oven, you can also cook the mutton tikka on a stovetop using a non-stick pan or a grill pan. Cook them over medium heat until they are cooked through and have a charred appearance.
Enjoy the delicious and succulent mutton tikka as an appetizer or as a part of your main course!
