Exercises for the eyes can help alleviate eye muscle weakness and strain. Here are ten eye exercises along with an herb that is often associated with promoting eye health:
Eye Exercises:
- Palming:
- Rub your palms together to generate heat and place them over your closed eyes. Relax and feel the warmth soothing your eyes.
- Blinking:
- Blink rapidly for about 20 seconds to moisten your eyes and reduce dryness.
- Eye Rolling:
- Gently roll your eyes in a clockwise and then counterclockwise direction. Repeat several times.
- Near-Far Focus:
- Focus on a close object for 10 seconds, then shift your focus to a distant object. Repeat several times.
- Figure Eight:
- Imagine a giant figure eight in front of you. Trace the figure eight with your eyes, focusing on the imaginary shape.
- Concentration Exercise:
- Hold a small object at arm’s length and focus on it. Slowly bring it closer to your eyes, then move it away. Repeat.
- Zooming:
- Hold a small text at a comfortable reading distance. Slowly bring it closer to your eyes until it blurs. Move it back out and refocus.
- 20-20-20 Rule:
- Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to reduce eye strain.
- Eye Massage:
- Gently massage your temples and the area around your eyes in a circular motion with your fingertips.
- Eye Gymnastics:
- Move your eyes in different directions – up and down, left and right, diagonally – to exercise all eye muscles.
Herb for Eye Health:
Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus):
- Bilberry is often associated with eye health. It contains anthocyanins, which are antioxidants that may help improve blood flow to the eyes and support overall eye health. It’s available in supplement form.
Note:
- Before starting any exercise or supplement regimen, it’s crucial to consult with an eye care professional or healthcare provider, especially if you have pre-existing eye conditions or concerns.
