Seekh kabab is a popular Pakistani and Indian dish made with minced meat, spices, and herbs, cooked on skewers. Here’s a recipe for delicious Seekh Kababs:
Ingredients:
– 500 grams ground lamb or beef
– 1 medium onion, finely chopped
– 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
– 2 green chilies, finely chopped
– 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
– 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint leaves
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon ground coriander
– 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
– 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
– 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
– 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
– 2 tablespoons gram flour (besan)
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 2 tablespoons oil (for basting)
– Skewers (metal or bamboo)
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, cilantro, mint leaves, cumin, coriander, red chili powder, garam masala, black pepper, salt, gram flour, and lemon juice. Mix well to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
3. If using bamboo skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes to prevent them from burning.
4. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
5. Take a handful of the meat mixture and mold it onto a skewer, shaping it into a long cylindrical shape. Repeat with the remaining mixture and skewers.
6. Place the skewered kababs on the preheated grill or on a baking sheet if using the oven.
7. Cook the kababs for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
8. Optional: Brush the kababs with oil during cooking for added moisture and flavor.
9. Once cooked, remove the kababs from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
10. Serve the Seekh Kababs hot with mint chutney, sliced onions, and naan or rice on the side.
Note: If you don’t have a grill or oven, you can also cook the Seekh Kababs on a stovetop using a non-stick pan or a grill pan. Cook them over medium heat until they are cooked through.
Enjoy your homemade Seekh Kababs as a delicious appetizer or as part of a main course!
